Chateau GRAND BARI owns about 60 ha of vineyards, that are part of the Tokaj wine region. The grapes are grown in the village of Veľká Bara, which is also the name of the winery Chateau GRAND BARI. Our fields at Čelejka, Ružičky, Katy and Piliš are located on one of the highest hills in the Slovak part of Tokaj, on Piliš hill. The vast majority of areas are classified in category 1A as the finest terroir. The soil is of volcanic origin with different fractions of rocks. These areas have a differing geomorphological structure and therefore allow the wine to be of a different character. Our vineyards are registered for integrated protection, which means that the care of the vineyards minimizes the use of chemical products. Natural elements are used more intensely. All wines are produced only from grapes grown in our own vineyards.
The wine is excellent in terms of the natural conditions and varietal combinations of Yellow Muscat, Hárslevelű and Furmint. These varieties are suitable for the creation of botrytized grapes, which are botrytized grapes affected by Botrytis cinerea, which gives the wine unique qualities. This mould disturbs the peel of berry and causes water to evaporate. This concentrates sugars and bouquet substances in the raisin. To make Tokaj wines complex, they must be matured in small oak barrels, where the Cladosporium cellare black cellar mould dominates. This cellar mould thus lives in symbiosis with Tokaj wine.
